One of the topics we currently are working on is the interface between nature management and cultural heritage. Most remaining bogs nowadays are protected nature reserves, and management is mainly focused on preserving and restoring the rich flora and fauna of these ecosystems. However, bogs are rich in cultural remains as well. We are developing a research framework in which both can be incorporated. To this end we are also joining efforts with German colleagues, who deal with similar issues. We joined a conference in Osnabruck in November 2022 on this topic, including a field trip to the Aschener Moor - one of the few bogs where turf is still being extracted in Germany. |
